The best apps to make a photo talk on iPhone (2026)

Dora is made by Saga Labs, the publisher of this site.

Short answer: a talking photo app animates the face in a still picture so its lips move with a voice: your own recording, a typed line read by an AI voice, or a funny preset clip. On iPhone the most used are Avatarify and Revive for faces, My Talking Pet for animals, HeyGen for a presenter that reads a script, and Dora's Lip Sync on the web if you already have the audio and want to choose the shape and resolution.

Everything about the other apps comes from their App Store listings in the US, checked on October 24, 2026. Ratings change daily.

1. Avatarify

Avatarify's listing promises to "make photos talk, sing, and lip-sync" and turn selfies into expressive avatar videos. It is built for exactly this, with a large catalogue of songs and a long track record. Choose it for funny or musical clips of a face.

2. My Talking Pet

The best-rated app here by volume. You add a photo of your pet, record your voice or pick from hundreds of pre-recorded clips, and change the voice "from big dog to little cat". Monthly and yearly subscriptions remove the watermark and the saving limit, per its listing. If the face is an animal, start here.

3. Revive

Revive from Reface brings "voice to your stills": make pictures talk or sing, turn a pet into a talking pet, or use your own expressions and voice with lip sync. It also does AI hugs, dances and other face effects, so it suits people who want one app for many fun edits.

4. HeyGen

HeyGen is for presenters rather than jokes. Its listing describes "Avatar 4, photo-to-video: one face photo becomes a natural talking video", with your voice or AI voices and lip sync, plus captions. Choose it for explainers, updates and training clips.

5. Dora

Dora is an AI video generator with many models. Its talking-photo tool is Lip Sync, on the web app at doravideo.com, which runs in Safari on your iPhone. What it does, read from its code on October 24, 2026 (the model definition in web/lib/models.ts):

Lip Sync in Dora
Input One photo plus one audio file (both required)
Length Up to 15 seconds
Shape 9:16, 16:9 or 1:1
Resolution 480p or 720p
  • Where the audio comes from: your own recording, or a line made with the web app's text to speech (ElevenLabs Multilingual v2, six voices).
  • Worth knowing: Lip Sync is on the web, not in the iPhone app's model picker yet, and there is no free tier: it uses coins from a plan (pricing). Dora's iPhone app animates photos without speech.

Choose it if you already have the audio, or want a vertical clip of a set length for Reels or TikTok, and also want other video models in the same account.

6. Talkr

Talkr lets photos and cartoon characters speak with your voice, or a disguised version of it. It has been around for years and is simple to use.

7. PixVerse Lite

PixVerse Lite is a full AI video app whose audio tools include Lip-Sync: "upload a character, type dialogue or upload an audio file, and create a talking AI avatar". A good pick if you also want text to video, effects and music videos in one app.

Tips for a talking photo that looks right

  1. Face the camera. A front-facing, well-lit face with the mouth visible and closed works best. Sunglasses, hands or hair over the mouth break the lip sync.
  2. Clean audio. Record in a quiet room, close to the phone. Noise and music under the voice make the lips drift.
  3. Short lines. Under 15 seconds per clip; split a longer script into several clips.
  4. Match the shape to where you will post: 9:16 for Reels and TikTok.
  5. Ask before you use a real person's face, and label realistic AI content where the platform asks (TikTok and YouTube both do).

Which one should you use?

  • A face that sings or says something funny: Avatarify or Revive.
  • Your pet talking: My Talking Pet.
  • A presenter reading a script: HeyGen.
  • Your own audio on a photo, vertical, with other video models in the same account: Dora's Lip Sync.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a photo talk on iPhone?

Install a talking photo app such as Avatarify, Revive or My Talking Pet, add the photo, then record your voice, type a line for an AI voice or pick a preset clip. The app moves the lips to match. Dora does the same on its web app with Lip Sync: one photo plus up to 15 seconds of audio.

Which app makes my pet talk?

My Talking Pet is built for it and has the most ratings of the apps in this list, about 174,000 on the US App Store. Revive and Avatarify can also animate pet photos.

Can I make a photo talk with my own voice?

Yes. Avatarify, Revive, Talkr and My Talking Pet record your voice in the app. Dora's Lip Sync takes an audio file you upload. HeyGen can use your voice or an AI voice.

How long can a talking photo be?

It depends on the app and plan. Dora's Lip Sync makes clips of up to 15 seconds; for longer speech, split the script into several clips or use a presenter tool such as HeyGen.

Is there a free talking photo app?

These apps are free to download and sell subscriptions or credits for saving without a watermark or for more videos; check each listing's in-app purchases. Dora has no free tier.
